Book of the month
1Q84
by Haruki Murakami
Our April Book of the Month, 1Q84 by Haruki Murakami, invites us into a quietly surreal reimagining of 1984 Tokyo, where the familiar begins to slip just slightly out of place. When Aomame steps off a highway and into an alternate version of reality, and Tengo becomes entangled in a mysterious literary project, their lives begin to echo each other across an unseen thread. With Murakami’s signature blend of magical realism, suspense, and emotional depth, the novel unfolds like a dream you can’t quite wake from, asking us to question what we accept as real and who we trust to define it.
We chose this book for April because it reflects a time when transformation is happening beneath the surface, even if we can’t fully see it yet. April is a threshold month, inviting us to trust our intuition, embrace uncertainty, and remain open to unexpected paths. As we move deeper into spring, this story offers a gentle nudge to stay curious, follow the quiet pull of our inner knowing, and honor the unseen forces shaping our journey.

“I am so thankful for Jess and Pepper moon for creating a space where like minds can convene to be intentional about spending time in nature and reflecting, which I often feel since leaving home/college I haven’t been practicing as much.”
